Surgical Services

There are times in your pet’s life when surgery is necessary. At the Atlantic Cat Hospital your cats’ safety is our primary concern. All surgeries include presurgical bloodwork to screen for underlying issues that may impact anesthesia and require changes in protocols. An assistant is dedicated to anesthetic monitoring throughout all procedures to maximize patient safety. Presurgical and post-surgical pain management are also incorporated into every surgical procedure.

Some of the more common surgical procedures performed at the Atlantic Cat Hospital are:

Elective procedures: pet overpopulation is a serious issue. We strongly encourage all pet owners to spay/neuter their pets. This would be a perfect time to consider micro-chipping your cat as well. A microchip may reunite you if your companion ever gets lost, ask staff for more details.

Our Elective Procedures:

  • Microchipping
  • Spays
  • Neuters
  • Dentistry

Soft-tissue surgeries:

  • Mass Removals
  • Ocular
  • Exploratories
  • And more…

Emergency Procedures as needed but may be referred to the Metro Animal Emergency Clinic in Dartmouth

Please note that we do not perform “de-claws” as this procedure is an actual amputation of the end of the toe and has been banned/outlawed in Nova Scotia.  Alternatives are available:

  • Soft paws application
  • Regular nail trimming
  • Appropriate scratching surfaces
